Vessel Storage

During the summer 6 months, Cruisers, Motorboats & large RIBs (>=5.0m) reside on moorings or in the Tidal Harbour.
In winter, Cruisers & Motorboats can be conditionally stored on the Hardstanding, in the Tidal Harbour or removed from the Harbour.
Large RIBs are not permitted to be stored on the Hardstanding at any time.

The Harbour Board arranges Craning Days, typically on Spring Tides in April and October for the transfer of members’ vessels between The Brook and hardstanding, with costs of crane hire on the day shared by owners.

Those with a road-trailer to self-launch & recover via the slipway may also apply for winter storage on the hardstanding subject to the availability of space after vessels have been craned.  Such vessels may only come to the hardstading after craning in October and must launch before craning in April to allow maximum flexibility during craning days.

Whilst there is scope for the laying of new moorings in the LFHA-owned fundus area, hardstanding space is limited and is often fully subscribed, summer & winter.  The Harbour Board will only consider craning leisure monohull vessels (bilge keelers are better suited to our moorings which dry out, and for craning) with overall length of up to 28ft and a maximum beam of 9ft 6in.  Other considerations when a vessel is requested to be craned can come into play, so Members should contact the Harbour Board before acquiring a vessel if they wish to avail themselves of a winter dry berth.  Craning and winter dry-berthing are only available to vessels that have been licensed for a LFHA mooring during the previous summer.

Vessels are not usually kept on moorings over winter.

Well before craning day, all members having their vessels craned will receive an emailed Safety Briefing which must be responded to as required and the ad hoc craning fee must be paid prior to a lift.  Owners preferably, or their appointees if essential, must attend craning as instructed.

Vessels that are craned directly to the hardstanding take precedence for hardstanding space over self-recovered trailered vessels.  The Harbour Board does not crane vessels to road trailers poitioned on the hardstanding for overwinter storage there.

Vessels with prior Harbour Board agreement in writing, may be craned to a road trailer for immediate removal from the Harbour once craning to the hardstanding is completed.

The eastern edge of the wet harbour leading up to craning is reserved for vessels being craned.  Vessels licensed for over-wintering in the tidal harbour may only arrive after craning in October.
